Hello! My name is Ryker Styles Savage and I am a jazz guitarist, composer and educator from Seattle Washington. I have been playing and teaching professionally for over 5 years across the united states with notable performances at the Paramount Theater, Seattle Center, Town Hall, The Royal Room, Rumba Notes and the Quincy Jones performing arts Center in in Seattle, Lincoln Center in NYC, Wallys Jazz Cafe, The Mad Monkfish and the Bebop in Boston and many more. I attended Garfield High school in Seattle, which is widely recognized as one of the best jazz programs in the nation and competed at many different high school level jazz competitions and festivals, many of which we won, and did small ensemble gig work after school during my time there. I went on to study jazz guitar performance at the internationally renowned Berklee College of Music where I formed my own trio and played on countless gigs, jam sessions taught private lessons and did studio work. During this time I gained experience working in small band jazz, big band, solo guitar, rock, folk, singer/songwriter, punk, indie/alternative, reggae, latin jazz, classical guitar, avant-garde, americana, shoegaze, cumbia, jam band, jazz fusion, and bossa nova. I eventually decided that I wanted the freedom to pursue my own passions and curiosities within music, and decided to drop out and move back to Seattle where I am currently playing, composing, teaching and studying classical guitar. During my musical journey I have had the privilege to meet and/or study with a numerous amount of notable guitarists and musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkle, Peter Bernstein, Bill Frisell, Bobby Broom, Joe Farnsworth, Emmet Cohen, Sheryl Bailey, Mike Eskenazi, Alex Claffey, Lyle Brewer, Jon Wheatley, John Baboian, Mark White, Patrick Bartley, Francisco Mela, Kevin Belz, Matt Munisteri, Julian Kasper, Jane Miller, Bela Fleck, Joe Musella, David Newsam, Lauren Passarelli, Kim Perlak, Rick Peckham, Nate Radley, Ken Elia, Larry Baione, Norman Zocher, Phillip Grenadier, Rebecca Cline, Richard Greenblatt, Kenny Werner, Allain Mallet, Jason Palmer, Milo Peterson, David Santoro, Jaques Shwartz-Bart, and Carson Moore. I love music theory, and the history of the guitar in Jazz, and always strive to hear new music and expose myself to new musical perspectives. I love to teach students young and old, beginner to advanced. I aspire to share my love of music with the world and hope you have the heart to listen. There is no destination on this journey, only the path to walk upon. I will forever a student and a humble witness to this enigmatic world.
